General description

An adventure trip combining four days by 4x4 across mountains and lush oasis with a six-day trekking through the majestic dunes of Ch’gaga, along the ancient caravan trade route linking Marrakech to the great Sahara.

An amazing journey that will allow you to explore spectacular wild landscapes while enjoying a magical desert experience. The hike does not require a specific training. Nevertheless, a healty physical condition and a good level of fitness are strongly recommended to fully enjoy long distance trails. Average walking time of 6 hours per day. The trip includes private transport from Marrakech to M’hamid (departure point of the trekking) across the Atlas mountains and the vast oasis of Draa.

Stages of the trip

Ouarzazate - M'hamid - Sidi Naji - Erg Zehar - Erg Smar - Khert Igrzam - Erg Labidlia - Zagora - Ait Ben Haddou
Starting from Marrakech, the 4x4 will take us across the central High Atlas mountains for a first stop et the ancient ksar of Ait Ben Haddou and the silent city of Ouarzazate, at the gates of the desert, to enjoy its african charm and appreciate the beauty of the impressive Taourirt palace, finely restored in recent times. Our journey will continue on the second day across the vast oasis of the Draa, towards the Saharan village of M'hamid, where we’ll prepare for the trek. We’ll start our hike from M’hamid early in the morning, accompanied by a nature guide guide and by camels and expert camel drivers. We’ll cross the Oued Draa and dunes of Ihnchat for a first stop at the tomb of the marabout Sidi Naji, where we will spend the night. Over the following days, we’ll explore the wild beautiful landscapes of Ch’gaga and the impressive sand dunes of the Erg Labidlia, the largest in Morocco, up to 300 m high. An extraordinary journey along the ancient nomadic trade routes, on a soft, golden sand, in an amazing ecosystem, characterized by extremely hot temperatures in summers and very cold evenings and nights in winter. A unique experience in true contact with a wild rough nature, camping at night in the hearth of the dunes to enjoy all the harmony and beauty of the desert, at the rhythm of the traditional music, around the warm light of a bonfire. The 4x4 will pick us up after six days of trekking to bring us back to Ouarzazate, for a last relaxing day of hammams and massages, before returning to Marrakech.
